Extra Story Ch1 - Episode 5

 "Lyricist and Composer"
*translated using deepl and various jp to en dictionaries, mistakes may be made

Felix: ...I see. So that's what happened

Wataru: Fantome's songs are composed by your guitarist, Suzaki-san right?

Wataru: That...has Suzaki-san ever gotten into a slump?

Daimon: ...what we have to say might not be very helpful

Daimon: Jun is always shaken and feeling cornered because of Felix's unreasonable demands

Daimon: All I can do is listen to him and make him coffee

Felix: I don't mean to make any unreasonable demands. I know Jun can do it after all

Felix: Because I trust Jun

Daimon: Jun understands that you're relying on him, so even though he may complain he'll still make the songs

Felix: That being said, the relationship between lyricist and composer varies

Felix: What kind of relationship do you and Rio have?

Wataru: (Because we can trust each other, huh...)

[flashback start]

Rio: Those aren't the kind of lyrics Matoba writes

[flashback ends]

Wataru: .........That's it

Wataru: (Those words must've been proof of Kikyo's trust in me...)

Wataru: (If that's the case, what I can do now is-)

Wataru: Thank you very much, Felix-san, Kusunoki-san!

Wataru: Let's go, Banri-kun!

Banri: Huh? W-Wait, Wataru-kun...!

[...and Wataru's already gone]

Banri: And he's gone! Ah, um, thank you for the coffee!

Felix: You're welcome

Daimon: Have a safe trip back

Daimon: ...it looks like we ended up helping the enemy*

Felix: Even if they hadn't come here, the result would've been the same

Felix: Fufu, I'm looking forward to the actual Fes

[later, back at Argonavis' Sharehouse]

[a door opens, and there are footsteps]

Rio: ......Matoba?

Wataru: Welcome back

Rio: Yeah. ...You're still awake

Wataru: I had something to say to you, so I waited for you to come back

Rio: What is it?

Wataru: ...it's about Argonavis, before you joined-

Wataru: You made a song just by looking at the lyrics I wrote. At that time when I heard the song, I was really surprised

Wataru: The lyrics, which had until then been nothing more than words written in a notebook, took on color and I felt as if my world had expanded

Wataru: By putting it together with the melody you made, a whole world was created. ...Those were my feelings

Rio: ......

Wataru: Don't look down on me. I'm not writing songs with you because you're a genius

Wataru: I'm writing songs with you because you're Argonavis' "Kikyo Rio"

Rio: ......I see

Wataru: ...I heard that you got angry when my notebook was burned

Rio: Of course I did.

Rio: I knew that anger was a double-edged sword, but I couldn't control it well

Wataru: ...in other words, that means you're getting more passionate, right?

Rio: ...yes, that's right

Wataru: I have one more thing I need to say to you

Rio: Hmm?

Wataru: You said that it wouldn't be a perfect song, suitable for the current Argonavis. That's not what I, or anyone else is looking for

Wataru: I don't need a "perfect" song

Wataru: Your songs with my lyrics, performed by everyone, and sung by Ren...

Wataru: That's Argonavis' music.

Wataru: If you're going to say that you're being selfish and annoying, don't do things half-heartedly, go all the way

Rio: ......!

Rio: ......

Rio: That day...I talked to Nanahoshi and read the lyrics of "Goal Line" from the notebook he gave me

Rio: I wanted to put a song to these lyrics. I wanted to do it with this band

Rio: ...I'm here now because I read your lyrics in that notebook

Wataru: ...I see

Rio: Looking for the "perfection" that I thought of was the same thing as setting my own limits

Rio: I may cause you trouble, but I'll give it my all

Rio: In order to grab what lies beyond my limits-

*(taken literally, he says "sent salt to our enemies" which refers to when Uesugi Kenshin sent salt to his enemy, Takeda Shingen when his salt supply had been cut off- saving an enemy from trouble instead of taking advantage of their weakness. So essentially the phrase means "to help one's enemy in difficulty" or "to show humanity even to one's enemy")
